Who is a truly iconic fashion personality for you?
I have great respect for Chanel. For her vision, her story, her style. Just like I admire Valentino.
Someone who inspires you?
Roberto Cavalli inspires me in one thing. He uses a lot of different kinds of materials in his designs, I like that. He has a tremendous feel for the right combination. It is similar to when choosing stones.
Would you be interested in cooperation with a fashion chain? Have they approached you?
Yes, they have. You know lately it has become very common for a big chain to approach a designer to make a fashion collection from cheaper materials that will be affordable. But for me, such cooperation is not interesting. It is about cheap, low-quality goods, not about luxury products. My philosophy is different – I try to create truly luxurious, original jewellery. Therefore, I can’t see too much potential for my brand in such cooperation.
What is your typical day?
But promise me that you will not laugh … every day I get up very early in the morning, I take my son to school and then answer the mountains of emails before I get into the office. I can’t do it any other way – as soon as I get to the office, everybody’s around me. Literally!
It starts with new ideas, which I listen to, judge and, where appropriate, ask for improvements. Then it’s time for the gems that have just arrived from production. Here it is necessary to really strictly assess the quality of the processing from all aspects. At the same time I have to see all the combinations of these stones on a necklace. I have to approve them; no stone leaves our headquarters without my consent.
Then I go to the marketing department, where several people are waiting for my OK: I have to give feedback on the advertising campaign, agree on photos of the products and so on. That is how it is every working day. Unless I’m not travelling.
And what about some leisure time, hobbies, recreation…
My biggest hobby are my two dogs, Toni and Theo. Cocker spaniels. After work I take them with me for a bike ride in the mountains. It is just so amazing how it cleans the head after a busy day full of stress. They are my joy; they always put a smile on my face. When I’m not with my dogs, I’m reading a book. I really enjoy biographies, most recently it was the story of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
